Update 4/10/16: This article has been updated to reflect new information from Berkeley Police Department that the man has since been identified.
On Sunday night, Berkeley Police Department released an alert stating it had identified the man who was found sitting on a bench near the North Berkeley Library on Saturday afternoon.
A community member found the man, who seemed confused and in need of assistance, about 11:30 a.m., according to a BPD alert. When police officers contacted the man, the alert said, he was unable to speak or identify himself. According to the alert, the man did not have any form of identification.
The man was taken to Alta Bates Hospital for medical evaluation, according to the alert. Since the man arrived at the hospital, the alert said, BPD has not received any reports about the man being missing.
According to the alert, the man appeared to be well cared for and was wearing newer shoes with minimal wear.
