A man was assaulted by a woman with a bat Sunday, according to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Frankel.

The incident took place outside the Black and White liquor store at the corner of Adeline Street and Ashby Avenue.

The suspect fled the scene in a Chrysler Sebring after beating the man with a metal bat. The man sustained nonlife-threatening injuries and was transported from the scene to Highland Hospital in Oakland. At the time of publication, Frankel could not confirm whether the man had been released from the hospital.

The suspect is described as a black female in her 30s, between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 5 inches and weighing approximately 200 lbs. She wore a blue long-sleeved shirt or jacket and blue plaid pants and had a “straight black wig or weave down the middle of her back,” according to Frankel.

Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect is encouraged to contact BPD at (510) 981-5900.
