Berkeley Police set up perimeter around Marina following reports of man carrying gun

Berkeley Police Department sent out an advisory message at about 1 p.m. Tuesday to stay clear of the Berkeley Marina area after a report was filed that a man carrying a rifle was seen entering McLaughlin Eastshore State Park.

According to Lt. Alan Love of the East Bay Regional Park District Police Department, a team made up of officers from his department, BPD and the Oakland Police Department responded to the call and worked inside the park with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and the U.S. Coast Guard to conduct a search of the area.

Alan said that after a thorough search of the area, no subjects were located within the perimeter and the parks were reopened at 5:45 p.m. The search is no longer active.
