We at the Clog can agree on one thing — coffee is our life juice. If you’re completely new to the thriving coffee scene in Berkeley, here are some suggestions for coffee stops on the way to commonly-frequented places among UC Berkeley students.

Near Unit 3:

SoDol Coffee is neatly tucked away in a corner near Unit 3 and functions simultaneously as a date spot and a study spot. The dark lighting gives the place a unique vibe that is warm and relaxed, yet also sexy. And its dark roasts will definitely keep you perked.

Near Units 1 and 2:

Everyone’s been there so everyone knows the Peet’s Coffee at the Den is dope. Closing at 10 p.m. during the school year, this spot is the perfect place for a mid-study pick-me-up. You can get classic Peet’s favorites as well as a bunch of different types of snacks. Enjoy using your meal points here as well, freshmen and frat boys.

On campus:

Equator is far and away the best coffee on campus. Situated conveniently in the new Martin Luther King Jr. Student Union, it offers freshly baked treats every day and some of the best damn coffee around. Try the iced vanilla latte or blended mocha for a sweet wake-up call.

Near Clark Kerr Campus:

Sacks is the perfect study spot — if you can get a table. Arrive early on the weekends for free WiFi and delicious espresso drinks and chai lattes. The sandwiches and pastries aren’t bad either if you feel the hunger.

Near the Tang Center:

While you are scuffling and coughing to the Tang Center during flu season (which coincides with your first midterm) the delicious scones and mochas at Cafe Blue Door will instantly cheer you up.

Similarly, the live quartet performances every Sunday at Musical Offering Café will brighten your gloomy overcast Bay Area morning.

Near Safeway:

Mint Mojito from Philz Coffee — enough said. Philz is the perfect complement to waiting for the 51b bus with your 50-plus pounds of groceries.
