A man in serious condition was taken to Highland Hospital after he was struck by a car at approximately 1:30 p.m. Thursday in South Berkeley, according to Berkeley Police Department Lt. Dan Montgomery.

BPD responded to the scene of the collision at Russell Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Way to find one man in the street next to a car and another man in a vehicle about a block away, Montgomery said.

BPD suspects that this was an incident of road rage that culminated in one man getting out of his car and later being struck by the other man’s vehicle, Montgomery said.

While BPD also received a report of someone brandishing a gun, Montgomery said there was no weapon found on the scene to substantiate that report. Traffic was restricted in the area from about 1:38 p.m. until 4:37 p.m.
