Attempted strong-arm robbery occurs near Downtown Berkeley BART station early Friday

An attempted strong-arm robbery took place near the Downtown Berkeley BART station early Friday morning, according to a Berkeley Police Department crime alert.

About 6:25 a.m., the suspect — described in the alert as a 25-year-old Black male of medium complexion and thin build wearing a blue or grey shirt — unsuccessfully attempted to rob a 58-year-old male who was walking down the street in front of 2190 Shattuck Ave.

After the suspect’s attempt failed, the alert stated that the suspect proceeded to flee the scene and is still at large. The victim did not sustain any injuries, according to the alert.
