Shamrock Shake Jell-O shots

Kevin Reber/File

When it comes to St. Patrick’s Day, there are two absolute must-haves: green and a Shamrock Shake. These quintessential minty milkshakes can be found but once a year at McDonald’s nationwide. But here at Cal, we’re not satisfied with the status quo. We can always make things even better. But how can one make this shake even more St. Patty’s Day-esque? With booze, of course. So here’s my take on the Shamrock Shake, perfectly sweet and creamy, but with a twist.

Adapted from Tablespoon

Makes six shots

3 ounces unflavored gelatin

1 cup boiling water

½ cup mint liqueur or Peppermint Schnapps

½ cup sweetened condensed milk

1 teaspoon green food coloring

¼ cup whipped cream

Mix the gelatin and hot water in a bowl. Ensure the gelatin has dissolved entirely, and whisk if necessary. Add in the liqueur, condensed milk and drops of food coloring into the same bowl. Next, divide the mixture into six shots. Cover and refrigerate until they’re completely firm. After about two hours, before you serve, add whipped cream on top and slurp ’em up!
