Berkeley Police Department officers arrested Kenneth Brown, 20, on Friday evening for alleged possession of a loaded, concealed and unregistered firearm, according to a BPD Nixle alert Tuesday morning.

On Friday about 5:59 p.m., a BPD officer and his recruit observed a vehicle without license plates on 9th Street near Gilman Street. The officers initiated a traffic stop for the vehicle code violation.

The officers found that Brown, the driver of the car, was allegedly driving without a driver’s license. The passenger of the car also allegedly did not have a valid driver’s license, the alert stated.

When one of the officers requested that Brown exit the vehicle, he allegedly saw a partially concealed handgun under the floormat on the driver’s side. Both Brown and the passenger were handcuffed, and further investigation of the firearm revealed that it was loaded and unregistered, according to the alert. Brown was arrested for alleged possession of a loaded, concealed and unregistered firearm and was also cited for the alleged vehicle code infractions.
