The Berkeley Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard coordinated a rescue of two individuals from a boat that had capsized near the tip of the Berkeley Pier on Tuesday, according to BFD Battalion Chief Bill Kehoe.

Kehoe said BFD received a call about 4:42 p.m. reporting that a boat had capsized near the Berkeley Pier, and BFD responded to the scene in less than 6 minutes.

Kehoe was unable to disclose the names of the two sailors, and added that BFD was not sure what caused the boat to capsize. Kehoe added that once rescued, the two sailors were escorted to the Berkeley Marina and were met by ambulances, which transferred the sailors to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
