On Tuesday morning, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Northridge postponed the plea hearings of campus students Ismael Chamu and Peter Estrada. Chamu and Estrada were arrested last week by Berkeley Police Department on charges of vandalism.

Chamu and Estrada appeared at the René C. Davidson Courthouse on Tuesday morning after being arraigned Monday afternoon on charges of felony vandalism and misdemeanor possession of tools to commit vandalism.

At Estrada’s request, Northridge also referred Estrada’s case to the Office of the Alameda County Public Defender. Chamu is being represented by a public attorney.

Neither Chamu nor Estrada appeared to be in police custody Tuesday.

Chamu and Estrada are both scheduled to appear in court Aug. 2 at 9 a.m. for their rescheduled plea hearings.
