A fire was reported in an alleyway early Friday morning on the 1300 block of Arch Street near Spruce Street and Rose Street, according to a Nixle alert issued about 4:52 a.m. Nearby residents were evacuated.

A later alert issued about 5:03 a.m. said the fire had been “knocked down” and that residents were being allowed to return to the area as conditions dictated.

As of 10:12 a.m., Berkeley Police Department Lt. Andrew Rateaver confirmed the fire has been put “entirely out” and added that an investigation is ongoing.
