A fire was reported at Tan Kah Kee Hall on Monday evening to UCPD about 7:40 p.m.

UCPD Sgt. Thomas Wing said a small chemical fire took place on Tan Kah Kee Hall’s 5th floor.

UCPD and Berkeley Fire Department officers then evacuated the building and inspected it to ensure it was safe.

Corrie Hemenway, a campus student, said fire alarms sounded in Tan Kah Kee Hall about 7:30 p.m. and the following evacuation interrupted her Physics 7C midterm.

As of 8:08 p.m., students, researchers and faculty that had been evacuated were allowed back into the building.

Camryn Bell contributed to this report.
