A fire broke out at the 1600 block of Fifth Street inside a building where Cafe Fanny Granola is manufactured and packaged early Thursday morning.

The total costs of damage and cause of the fire have yet to be determined, according to Berkeley Fire Department Battalion Chief Bill Kehoe.

BFD received a report of smoke at 1619-1621 Fifth St. between Cedar Street and Virginia Street about 5:52 a.m. Thursday

BFD firefighters were on the scene by 5:57 a.m. Firefighters had to force their way through several security doors to get into the dry storage room where the fire had started, according to Kehoe.

Kehoe stated that firefighters had the fire under control by 6:20 a.m. A nearby house was evacuated, but residents were promptly able to return to their home after the fire was extinguished.

The incident is still under investigation, according to Kehoe.
