UCPD received a report Friday of a mountain lion sighting Sept. 16 near Centennial Drive and Stadium Rim Way.

UCPD notified the public in a Nixle alert about the report, which came from a UC employee, who saw the animal “in the bushes across the street from the Rugby Field.” According to the alert, several sightings of mountain lions in Berkeley have occurred in the past couple years.

The alert offered suggestions about how to avoid encountering a mountain lion, including avoiding jogging or hiking alone between dusk and dawn.
