A female UC Berkeley student was the victim of an attempted rape on the Upper Fire Trail on Thursday evening.

UCPD received a call Friday about the attempted assault, according to a UCPD Nixle alert. The victim was jogging on the trail about 7 p.m. on Thursday when the male suspect ran up behind her and allegedly tackled her to the ground. The suspect then allegedly attempted to remove the victim’s shorts and fondled her, but the victim fought the suspect off and he ran away, the alert stated.

The suspect is described in the alert as a white male in his 50s with a medium build, gray collar-length hair and a full gray beard. He was seen wearing khaki pants.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call UCPD at 510-642-0472.
