Suspect in Halloween night shooting in custody, charged with 3 felonies

The suspect allegedly responsible for a shooting Halloween night was charged with three felonies, according to a Nixle alert released by Berkeley Police Department on Tuesday.

According to the alert, the suspect, who is currently in custody, is Berkeley resident Jose Paz-Leja. He was charged Tuesday on suspicion of assault with a firearm, use of a firearm to commit a felony, committing a felony while out of prison on bail and a bodily injury enhancement charge.

During the Halloween night shooting on the 1500 block of Fairview Street, a male victim was shot in the leg by a gun.

The alert alleged that Paz-Leja is a known member of the West Side Berkeley Norteño gang.
