It’s good hot or cold, fresh or as leftovers — it’s the great greasy goodness that is pizza! Pizza is arguably one of the best foods around. It’s universal, meaning everyone from nearly every country knows what pizza is, it’s versatile (how many types of food can be sold and marketed as convenience, fast food and gourmet?) and it’s just plain delicious. Berkeley boasts a few great pizza joints of its own. Here’s a short list of some of Berkeley’s best pizza places.
West Coast Pizza
We all know that 1 a.m. pizza craving. What some of us may not know is that West Coast Pizza’s famous cheesy sticks often satisfy this craving. West Coast Pizza is great for ordering food for a large party or when you just want a late-night snack.
Seniore’s Pizza
Seniore’s is another late-night favorite. It’s great because it’s close to the south side of campus, so you can physically go there and save up on those delivery charges from Postmates if you happen to be around the area. It’s also open until 4 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 a.m. on other days of the week. This makes this pizza place the quintessential late-night food stop.
Artichoke Basille’s Pizza
Artichoke is a pizza place we crave whether it’s day or night. Its signature Artichoke slice is a thick slice with artichoke hearts, spinach, cream and cheese that’ll satisfy your pizza craving. If a heavy slice of pizza isn’t what you’re looking for, Artichoke has other varieties that are just as tasty.
Jupiter
Jupiter is one of those cool, hip, aesthetically lit bars that just happens to serve some pretty great pizza. It’s located downtown and is the perfect spot to have a fancy lunch or dinner with your friends.
Zachary’s Chicago Pizza
If you’re ever in the mood for something decadent, try out Zachary’s. They have one of the best deep-dish pizzas in town. Plus, if thin-crust is just not filling you up, a slice of deep-dish certainly will.
The Cheese Board Collective
If you get overwhelmed by different choices of pizza, fear not! Cheese Board pioneered the gourmet, vegetarian, only-one-type-of-pizza-a-day business in Berkeley. Located in the Gourmet Ghetto on Northside, Cheese Board provides us Berkeley kids with a somewhat bougie and delicious iteration of pizza. It also has a bakery and cheese shop attached to it if you ever want to indulge in some of the finer things.
Sliver Pizzeria
OK, yes, Cheese Board did come first, but Sliver has become an iconic Berkeley pizza place. Like Cheese Board, it only serves one type of vegetarian pizza a day (it also makes vegan pizzas!), but the extra sliver of pizza handed out with each slice has truly put Sliver in a class of its own. Who doesn’t love a little more pizza for the same price?
We’re sure this list has got you thinking about the ooey-gooey goodness of pizza already. Now go grab a slice at one of these delicious pizza joints and enjoy!
