Junior Kristine Anigwe, the star forward of Cal women’s basketball, will not play in the team’s first-round matchup against Virginia, according to a press release.

Anigwe had fully practiced in the two weeks after the team’s loss to UCLA in the Pac-12 Tournament. However, she could not participate in this morning’s shootaround and was not cleared by Cal’s medical staff to play.

With Anigwe out, the Bears will be without their leading scorer and rebounder. Anigwe, who has played in all but one game this season, averages 16.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

Sophomore center CJ West, whose one start this season came when Anigwe missed a game against BYU, will likely take the junior’s place. In that game, West posted 2 points and seven rebounds in 19 minutes.
