Berkeley Police Department responded to an attempted bank robbery Monday afternoon, according to BPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Frankel.

Police responded to calls for service at about 2:38 p.m. on the 2300 block of Shattuck Avenue, according to Frankel.

Frankel added that the suspect is still at large, but officers are still on the scene.

Though robberies in Berkeley have increased from 2016 to 2017, bank robberies in the city are rare in comparison. Frankel called bank robberies “infrequent” and added that anecdotally, bank robberies happen only a few times a year.
