2-alarm fire contained by firefighters in Northwest Berkeley

Berkeley Fire Department responded to a fire at 699 Virginia St. in Northwest Berkeley on Friday morning.

The department received a report of the fire at 9:41 a.m., and firefighters arrived on scene at 9:46 a.m., declaring it a working fire, according to BFD Assistant Chief of Special Operations Keith May.

The fire was determined to be a two-alarm fire, and additional units were sent to the scene, May said. The fire was under control at 10:29 a.m. and there were no injuries, according to May. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

A Nixle alert was sent about 10:30 a.m. advising residents to avoid the area bordered by Cedar Street, Fourth Street, Virginia Street and Eastshore Highway until further notice.
