Homes around Panoramic Way lost gas service Thursday morning after a gas leak occurred at Panoramic Way and Orchard Lane.

In a Nixle alert released around 11 a.m. Thursday, Berkeley Police Department announced the road had also been closed as a result of the gas leak. Berkeley Fire Department and PG&E were on scene, and residents were advised to avoid the area, according to the alert.

BPD announced in a Nixle alert at 5:43 p.m. Thursday that the gas leak had been repaired and the road was reopened. The alert stated that PG&E would contact residents to reconnect their gas service.

The gas leak occurred after a crew not connected to PG&E struck a gas line while digging into the ground around 9:54 a.m. Thursday, according to Berkeleyside.
