Berkeley Fire Department responded to a fire at the Templo Getsemani church in West Berkeley on Thursday morning, and Berkeley Police Department later made one arrest in connection to the fire, as first reported by Berkeleyside.
BFD received multiple calls starting about 8:30 a.m. regarding debris on fire in the doorway of the church, according to the article, and the first fire unit arrived within several minutes. Paramedics and Berkeley police also were also present.
No one was injured during the fire’s quick extinguishing, but one man was arrested on suspicion of arson.
“Officers began looking for the suspect based on witness descriptions,” BPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Frankel told Berkeleyside. “At 9:14 a.m., a patrol officer stopped a similarly described person on the 1600 block of Fourth Street. That man was subsequently arrested.”
