Berkeley Police Department arrested two individuals — Oakland residents Javon Lee, 22, and Edward Riley, 22 — early Monday morning on suspicion of numerous “firearm related charges,” according to a BPD Nixle alert released Wednesday afternoon.
A BPD patrol officer noticed a “vehicle code violation” Monday at the 900 block of Ashby Avenue and approached the car, which was occupied by Lee and Riley, according to the alert. When Lee exited the vehicle to use his cellphone and Riley turned his back to pay for gasoline, the alert says the officer saw an unrolled marijuana cigarette on the car’s center armrest.
The officer subsequently searched the car and found a firearm on the passenger seat, beneath a bag Lee had been sitting on — subsequently, the officer arrested both Lee and Riley.
