An armed robbery was reported to Berkeley Police Department at about 2 a.m. Thursday morning, according to a UCPD Nixle alert released Thursday afternoon.

The victim was a 21-year-old man not affiliated with the campus, the alert said, and he was walking by People’s Park when he was approached by a white SUV with two occupants.

According to the alert, the SUV’s passenger left the car and pointed a handgun at the victim, then took the victim’s cellphone. The two suspects fled in an unknown direction in the SUV, and UCPD is still searching for them.

The passenger with the handgun was described in the alert as a 25-year-old male with a thin build, standing at 5 feet 10 inches and wearing a hoodie. The second passenger was simply described as a “male driving a white newer model SUV.”

UCPD asks anyone with more information about the crime to contact BPD’s 24-hour hotline at 510-981-5900.
