Iconic Disney dad quotes to reminisce about this Father’s Day

While our biological or familial father figures are often a large part of our lives, there’s no denying that the dads of the Disney universe impacted us as well. These animated characters sometimes angered us (just like some other parental units we know), but they often provided us with comfort, wise advice and much-needed humor during our childhood years. Hopefully, these Disney dad quotes will not only help you reminisce on simpler times but also remind you of how awesome real-life father figures are too!

Mufasa from “The Lion King”

With all the wisdom that this dad brings to “The Lion King,” you may be wondering why this whole article isn’t dedicated to Mufasa. Caring but tough, Simba’s father never fails to steer others along the right path. Perhaps the most iconic Mufasa scene occurs as he stargazes with Simba, telling him, “The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. … So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I.” And if you’ve watched “The Lion King” dozens of times like the rest of us, you know he doesn’t break that promise.

Crush from “Finding Nemo”

One of the most chill dads in the Disney universe, Crush the sea turtle from “Finding Nemo” is a given when it comes to quotes. Most of the dialogue centers on surfer slang words such as “dude” and “bro,” but beyond his relaxed exterior lies great wisdom. When Marlin, Nemo’s dad, sees Crush’s son swimming on his own, he questions how to tell when children are ready to grow up. Crush simply responds with “you never really know, but when they know, you know, y’know?” Ultimately, he reminds us that great dads teach us to be independent, in addition to teaching us cool handshakes.

Marlin from “Finding Nemo”

Speaking of “Finding Nemo,” we can’t forget about Marlin! The story of a skittish clownfish determined to find his kidnapped son is a classic from our childhood, showing the evolution of Marlin’s character from discipline-heavy to incredibly loving. However, an underrated quote from Marlin occurs as he talks to other sea creature parents and says, “If this is some kind of practical joke, it’s not funny, and I know funny. I’m a clownfish.” The dad joke only solidifies Marlin’s place in our Disney hearts and solidifies dad jokes as a cringey but important step into fatherhood.

King Fergus from “Brave”

We know we can’t beat a joke from a clownfish, but there’s another iconic Disney dad quote that comes to mind when we think of fatherly humor. In a conversation with his wife, Queen Elinor, Fergus imitates his daughter Merida with a high-pitched voice like so many of our own father figures do. In this case, Fergus says, “I don’t want to get married! I want to stay single and let my hair flow in the wind as I ride through the glen, firing arrows into the sunset!” Different from the traditional dad joke, Fergus’ humor in “Brave” reminds us that even though dads keep us in check, they can still be annoyingly hilarious while doing so.

Fa Zhou from “Mulan”

Despite being harsh on Mulan at the beginning of the movie for wanting to fight, Fa Zhou eventually comes around to support the empowerment of his daughter and reminds us that we love our dads for doing the same thing. His love and support are clear when he tells Mulan that “the greatest gift and honor is having you for a daughter.” Not only does his shift in perspective warm Mulan’s heart, but it warms ours as well!

James from “The Princess and the Frog”

Although he isn’t featured much in “The Princess and the Frog,” Tiana’s father James and his outlook on life are crucial to the Disney princess’s growth. During clips of Tiana’s childhood, James says, “You remember Tiana, that old star can only take you part of the way. You got to help it along with some hard work of your own.” Like many of our own dads, James encourages his daughter to work hard for what she wants, and his advice eventually aids Tiana in pursuing her own dreams of opening a restaurant!

Whether your dad is more of a Mufasa or more of a Marlin, we hope this list not only leads you on a walk down memory lane but also brings you back to the present. Cherish your father figures (dad jokes included) and make sure to tell them how much they mean to — just don’t tell them a few Disney characters encouraged you to do so.
