After serving the Berkeley community with Sunday brunches and celebratory dinners on the Berkeley Marina waterfront for nearly 50 years, HS Lordships will be closing its doors July 1.

The restaurant’s lease with the city of Berkeley has come to an end, prompting the restaurant’s closure. The restaurant serves fresh seafood and steaks from the grill and offers a large 500-seat venue for social and corporate events.

“We want to end on a high note and honor HS Lordships before it takes its final sail,” said John Tallichet, CEO of Specialty Restaurants Corporation — the company that owns the restaurant — in a blog post on HS Lordships’ website. “We want to invite all of our loyal guests and families to join us before we close to thank them for their patronage and to toast HS Lordships one last time together!”

HS Lordships opened in 1969 on the Berkeley Marina. Throughout its years in business, the restaurant has served many regular customers and families who have been coming since the restaurant opened, the blog post said.

“Over the years, we’ve made many friends here and I’m proud of our amazing staff for their hard work and contributions that helped make this a great restaurant,” Tallichet said in the blog post.

Reginald Garcia, an employee from neighboring restaurant Skates on the Bay, called HS Lordships’ imminent closure “unfortunate,” but admitted it could be beneficial for Garcia’s workplace. Garcia also commented that while Skates on the Bay is expecting more customers, it’s unclear to Garcia what will happen to HS Lordships’ property.

HS Lordships will continue to serve its usual a la carte lunch, dinner menu, Sunday champagne brunch and happy hour specials.
