Like a lot of other people, you probably don’t know where Twain Harte is. Well, we here at the Clog would love to introduce you! If you’re a lover of nature, winding roads and a good small-town feel, Twain Harte is somewhere you might want to book your next Airbnb. After driving just two and a half hours away from our loved city of Berkeley, you’ll escape to a place full of tall trees, nice people and good times (and a few bugs, so don’t forget your bug spray!).

Twain Harte offers beautiful, winding roads that will leave you in awe. You might get a bit queasy during your drive, but it’s all worth it! Take a drive through this area with the windows down and the music turned up and you’ll feel like you’re in a movie. The best part is that there’s never traffic or any pedestrians.

Living in Berkeley, you get that hint of nature through the UC Botanical Garden and Tilden Regional Park, but in Twain Harte, you get engulfed in the beauty of nature 24/7. Literally, you can’t escape it; everywhere you turn, you’ll see trees taller than the Campanile and bugs scarier than Oski — you might even see a bat or two! Either way, there’s no escaping the whole “one with nature” feeling when in Twain Harte.

If you find yourself in Twain Harte during the hotter seasons (yeah, it actually gets hot), you can take a dip in one of the many lakes in the area. A favorite spot is Pinecrest Lake. Here, you’ll find a refreshing lake with a beautiful view and shady trees to protect you from the sun’s rays. You can also see many families and friends just hanging out, paddleboarding, going on boats and, overall, being relaxed — as UC Berkeley students, we need to experience this at least once in our lives.

Is a cute small town in the middle of nowhere complete without a coffee shop? Although Twain Harte is home to many of these cute coffee shops, Sportsman Coffee Shop in particular gives off a very wholesome, country feel. With a friendly staff and traditional breakfast and lunch favorites, this coffee shop is a place you should definitely visit before you’re on your way.

Twain Harte has probably never crossed your mind, but we hope that after this article you’ll want to cop out of usual destinations such as Lake Tahoe and try something new. So grab some friends, family and bug spray and make your way to Twain Harte!
