Elderly woman stabbed near 1500 Edith St., suspect apprehended

Updated 9/6/18: This article has been updated to reflect additional information from a recent Nixle alert.

Berkeley Police Department released a Nixle alert at approximately 6:45 p.m. Tuesday about a stabbing that occurred about 2:47 a.m. the same day.

The alert said officers responded to a call in a home on the 1500 block of Edith Street about a woman screaming for help. Upon arrival, officers found that a woman in her late 70s had been stabbed, according to the alert.

On Wednesday, Pinole Police Department apprehended the suspect — 42-year-old Mark Edward Jekabson — at approximately 3:30 p.m., according to a Nixle alert issued Thursday.

The case remains under investigation, the alert said.
