Berkeley Police Department responded to a bank robbery at Wells Fargo Bank in Downtown Berkeley on Friday evening, as first reported by Berkeleyside.

Officers received a report of a robbery at 2144 Shattuck Ave. — where the bank is located — at 5:08 p.m., according to Sgt. Dave Lindenau. Lindenau said the suspect has been identified as a Black male in his 40s, about 6 feet tall.

The suspect was last seen walking southbound toward Center Street as he left the bank, according to Lindenau. He said nobody has been arrested yet in connection with the robbery, adding that it is unclear whether the suspect was carrying a weapon.

“I don’t know if there was a weapon. … All that came out was that he demanded money,” Lindenau said. “That’s all that was in the call.”

A police report about the robbery is still “a work in progress,” Lindenau said.
