Rolling Loud is new to the Bay Area and even newer to Oakland — for its second stint in Northern California, Rolling Loud was held at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum grounds, cementing its status not only as a celebration of rap and hip-hop but also specifically of Bay Area rap and hip-hop.
The names of local artists such as E-40, Saweetie and Kamaiyah populated the weekend’s packed lineup. But arguably more exciting than the local talents being showcased at this year’s festival were the women performing.
With only two female headliners the preceding year, this year’s Rolling Loud hosted many, many more, with names such as Cuban Doll, Tierra Whack and Asian Doll. If anything, this shows that Rolling Loud is not just a vehicle to highlight underrepresented musical genres but also the different and diverse artists within those genres.
