Berkeley Police Department officers are currently investigating a death at Shattuck Avenue and Dwight Way, according to BPD spokesperson Officer Byron White.

White said BPD received a call at 6:08 a.m. about a person who was unresponsive, and officers then determined that the person was deceased.

“Our detectives are investigating whether or not the death is suspicious,” White said. “We need to look into … what caused their death.”

White said northbound lanes on Shattuck Avenue between Dwight Way and Blake Street would be closed until the coroner’s office arrived to clear the scene. The road is now open, according to a Nixle alert issued at 11:40 a.m.

Identification of the deceased will occur through the coroner’s office, according to White.
