Berkeley Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with a peeping incident that occurred in early October, according to a Nixle alert released Monday afternoon.

On Oct. 3, a suspect allegedly walked onto the front porch of a residence on the 1300 block of University Avenue and peered into a window. BPD issued a Nixle alert Oct. 11 asking for the community’s assistance identifying the suspect and released YouTube videos of the suspect.

The alert released Monday said an off-duty BPD officer was driving home about 4:26 p.m. Oct. 26 when he spotted the suspect on the 1100 block of University Avenue. The officer called for assistance and the officers who responded to the scene took the suspect into custody without incident.

The suspect, Gary Alfranzo Fowler, is a 27-year-old homeless man, according to the alert. He was arrested on multiple charges and has since been charged with lewd conduct and prowling. According to Alameda County Inmate Locator, Fowler is being held in Santa Rita Jail and is scheduled for a hearing in Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse on Nov. 7.
