As a whole, Cal football came to play Saturday night in Los Angeles, but when it came to the defensive side of the ball, the Bears were nearly unstoppable.
In the second half of play, the Bears held USC to less than 50 total offensive yards and zero points, leading the way to a 15-14 upset victory. As part of the masterpiece of a performance, redshirt junior lineman Luc Bequette secured Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining linebackers Evan Weaver and Jordan Kunaszyk as Cal defenders to win the award in 2018.
Bequette set game career highs in tackles (8), tackles for loss (2.5) and sacks (2.0) and also forced a fumble late in the first half. In 2017, Bequette recovered a USC fumble during Cal’s 30-20 loss at home.
The Bears (6-4, 3-4) will return home this Saturday to host Stanford (6-4, 4-3) for the Big Game.
