As you may know, this week is due for plenty of rain. So, if you have a neglected succulent that needs watering, now would be a great time to get it some of that sweet, watery essence. Although Thanksgiving has recently passed, there are still many reasons to be thankful for the rain. Here are some reasons why UC Berkeley needs the rain now more than ever:

To clean up the air

The rain has the ability to replace the scent of smoke with the clean freshness that is hard to pass up. Much like how the rain is a second chance for the air quality to restore itself, the rain sort of symbolizes a second chance that we all need to hold on to for the next coming weeks, as we prepare for finals.

To hide our tears

The post-Thanksgiving break blues are real, and many of us may start to feel dread sink in as due dates for projects get closer and assignments are still being handed out. It may also just be the case that you really missed being on campus, or you are just really going to miss your wonderful professor. In general, rain = mood.

To give us an excuse to wear warm clothes

It seems like this year has been especially lacking in distinct seasonal weather, so with the onslaught of all of this rain, we can finally break out the warm sweaters and rain boots. We can accept that winter has been long overdue, and we are now getting a chance to experience it, to some extent.

To make it easier to sleep

Perhaps the stress at the end of the semester is affecting your sleep. Well, with the rain by your side, you can have some nice, natural ambient noise to lull you to sweet dreams. Just listen to the raindrops tap at your window to satisfy your ASMR needs. Honestly, the rain couldn’t have come at a better time. Mother Nature has got us covered, Bears. Of course, our opinions may quickly change for some of us once we step into the rain with misshapen umbrellas.

To provide an opportunity for inspiration

Something about the falling rain can actually be very calming and can put you in an introspective mood. We find ourselves dealing with the rain together, yet it seems like we are all individual under each of our own umbrellas. Sometimes we can get swept up in the Berkeley hustle, so take this time to think about what you want out of the remainder of the semester and what goals you want to achieve.

Although rain can sometimes feel like an inconvenience, there is a lot of good we can gain from this week’s weather. Thinking positively well before finals can help us in the long run. Stay dry, Bears!
