Cal men’s basketball’s freshman center Connor Vanover will miss a second consecutive game, ruled out against San Jose State with a broken nose and concussion. The freshman remains in concussion protocol.

Vanover was held out of action in Cal’s 95-73 loss to Fresno State due to injury and sophomore Grant Anticevich made his first career start in his place.

The freshman sustained the injuries against Cal Poly when he collided with the shoulder of Junior Ballard. Before exiting the game, Vanover had posted a career-high seven points, two rebounds and a block in 11 minutes.

In nine games this season, Vanover is averaging 4.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game in 9.8 minutes per game.

The freshman has been one of Cal’s more efficient scorers, shooting 55.6 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three.
