A man was arrested Dec. 23 on suspicion of exhibiting a deadly weapon and violation of his probation, according to a Nixle alert released Thursday.

Approximately 4:37 p.m., the suspect, 54-year-old homeless man Charles Andrew Bacon, allegedly approached a man standing near the entrance to the Downtown Berkeley BART station holding a knife and yelling for the man to purchase his hats. When the man told Bacon he did not want to buy the hats, Bacon reportedly raised the knife as if to stab the man. The man ran away and was not injured, according to the alert.

When Berkeley Police Department officers arrived on the scene, they located Bacon and arrested him.
