2 robberies reported in 1 day, according to Berkeley community alert

Two incidents of robbery were reported Saturday, one outside Philz Coffee and the other on Oregon Street, according to a Nixle alert released Tuesday.

On Saturday at 3:05 p.m., a man allegedly grabbed a woman’s laptop outside of Philz Coffee on Ninth Street. According to the alert, the woman was seated at a table outside the coffee shop when the suspect threw a plastic cup of water at her, then grabbed the laptop and ran to a waiting vehicle. The alert described the suspect as a mixed race male about 18 years old, 6 feet tall, with short hair and wearing jeans and a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

In a separate incident, at 7:10 p.m. Saturday, a man was allegedly approached by four male suspects while walking on the 1500 block of Oregon Street. The suspects knocked the man to the ground, put a gun to his head and took his cash, athletic shoes and cellphone, according to the alert. The suspects then ran away southbound on California Street, the alert said. Witnesses described the suspects as Black, about 16 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with slim builds.
