The Berkeley Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying a suspect posing as a Meals on Wheels employee, according to a Nixle alert released Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said the suspect, who was impersonating a Meals on Wheels employee, stood outside Safeway Community Markets in North Berkeley between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Thursday and asked people passing by for donations. The suspect ran away after Meals on Wheels staff confronted him and has not yet been located, according to the Nixle alert.

Meals on Wheels is an organization that provides meals to homebound seniors.

The alert described the suspect as a Black male in his 60s and about 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing an old version of a white Meals on Wheels shirt, white track pants and shoes. Authorities added that the suspect is possibly associated with a gray Ford Taurus.
