Berkeley Police Department responded to a report of an intoxicated man who was punching people in the Berkeley Way parking lot Jan. 19, according to a Nixle alert released by BPD on Tuesday afternoon.
Upon arrival at the 2000 block of Berkeley Way at 10:15 p.m., officers discovered a 65-year-old woman who had been punched in the face several times trying to drive out of the lot. The victim was evaluated at the scene by medical personnel for bruises on her face. Another victim reported that the suspect had kicked him in the thigh earlier on Berkeley Way but did not press charges, according to the alert.
Officers located the suspect a block away after receiving a description, according to the alert. The suspect was identified as 45-year-old San Ramon resident Jesse Karl Miller. Miller was arrested on suspicion of felony battery, elder abuse, possession of controlled substances, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
According to the alert, once Miller was taken to Berkeley jail, staff discovered that he possessed a quantity of Psilocybin Mushrooms and Oxycodone on his person, so Miller was also arrested on suspicion of bringing a controlled substance inside a jail.
