Berkeley Police Department responded Saturday evening to reports of a car accident involving an overturned vehicle in Elmwood, according to BPD Lt. Dave Lindenau.

The accident occurred by the corner of Benvenue Avenue and Russell Street about 9:45 p.m. A female driver swerved off the road and hit a retaining wall on a roadside property, which caused her car to flip over and hit two parked vehicles, Lindenau said.

Lindenau added that the driver, a 55-year-old Berkeley woman, was injured and transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland to be medically cleared for “unknown injuries.” No arrests were made, but Lindenau confirmed that BPD is currently conducting a DUI investigation.

Though the investigation is ongoing, investigators believe that speeding and driving while impaired may have been factors in this collision, according to the Nixle alert.
