UC police officers prevented an attempted auto burglary on the UC Berkeley campus Sunday night, according to UCPD spokesperson Sgt. Nicolas Hernandez.

At 10:09 p.m. Sunday, authorities caught Jason Brooks using a flashlight to peer into the back of a car in the Banway Building parking lot. Brooks proceeded to break the window of the vehicle, reach into the back seat and grab a backpack, Hernandez said. UCPD officers apprehended the suspect as the attempted auto burglary was occurring.

Brooks was booked into Glenn E. Dyer Detention Facility on Sunday night, according to Hernandez.
