UC Berkeley student, friend robbed at gunpoint on Shattuck Avenue

While walking down Shattuck Avenue early Monday morning, a UC Berkeley student and his friend were robbed of their bags by two armed suspects, according to a joint UCPD and Berkeley Police Department Nixle alert.

About 2:30 a.m. Monday, the two victims were walking south on Shattuck Avenue near Addison Street when they were approached by the two suspects, according to the alert. The suspects — described as male and in their late teens or early 20s — then demanded that the UC Berkeley student hand over his backpack and his friend’s shoulder bag, both of which he was carrying. 

According to the alert, one of the suspects threatened the victims by brandishing a handgun. When the student handed over both bags, the suspects fled westbound down Addison Street.
