You check your notifications and your friend who never seems to have homework texted “Glade at 1?” The sun is finally out and you type “yes,” but quickly delete it to respond “I can’t.” While your friends are living out the college brochure lifestyle on the Glade, you’re stuck writing a paper or whatever STEM majors do in Main Stacks, devoid of natural light. We at the Clog understand your pain and made you the perfect playlist to grind to. Each song makes you feel like you’re sitting out in the sunshine with your best friends getting prematurely nostalgic for the end of college.
“Sunflower” by Vampire Weekend feat. Steve Lacy
No college playlist would be complete without a Vampire Weekend song. They practically wrote the soundtrack to college life. “Sunflower” is one of the four songs released after an almost six-year hiatus we are so lucky to have released during our college years! This groovy song elicits imagery of springtime and reminds the listener of care-free times.
“Self Control” by Frank Ocean
Listening to “Blonde” always reminds us at the Clog, and seemingly everyone on Twitter, of summer nights. We chose “Self Control” because it captures the sadness of reflecting on better times before things fell apart aka when you weren’t 10 lectures behind and trapped in Main Stacks.
“Mr. Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra
This is an absolute must for any springtime playlist. “Oh mister blue sky please tell us why you had to hide away for so long (so long)?” is a sentiment felt by all of us at UC Berkeley after we survived what seemed like years of rain.
“3 Nights” by Dominic Fike
This song blends surf-rock and hip-hop and puts a spring in your step and a smile on your face. It is the perfect song for an impromptu dance break. Watch the BROCKHAMPTON directed music video for a full happiness-inducing effect.
“Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac
We at the Clog are going to use this playlist to inform readers that everyone likes Fleetwood Mac and there’s no need to base your entire personality on liking them. Okay, what were we saying? Oh right, studying in spring time! You can practically feel the warm breeze of spring time while you listen to this song… it’s almost as if you are on the Glade!
“When It Was Wrong” by The California Honeydrops
This band like whatever you are working on was also formed underground in the East Bay. No they didn’t begin playing in Main Stacks, but they did in Oakland BART stations. Let this be a reminder of the greatness that can come from staying indoors.
Hopefully this playlist motivates to you to fight the urge to drop everything and hit the Glade. Unfortunately, we at the Clog aren’t that strong…
