UCPD are searching for a suspect after a man was assaulted near People’s Park Thursday night, according to a Nixle alert released Friday morning.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. Thursday, a man — not affiliated with UC Berkeley — was standing on the 2500 block of Dwight Way, west of People’s Park, when the suspect approached him and began asking questions the man did not want to answer. After refusing to answer the questions, the suspect began punching the man in the face. When the victim fell to the ground, the suspect kicked him repeatedly in the stomach and once in the face.

The victim sustained a laceration on his face and was transported to a local hospital to treat his injuries. UCPD officers searched the area for the suspect but were not able to locate him.

UCPD requests that anyone with information about this incident call the 24-hour department line at (510) 981-5900.
