Berkeley police respond to physical altercation on Bancroft Way

Berkeley Police Department responded to a physical altercation Monday evening at 2400 Bancroft Way, according to an email from BPD spokesperson Officer Byron White.

According to the statement, a 51-year-old man was hit on the head with a wooden board by one suspect, a 24-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and was pepper-sprayed by another suspect. The victim was taken to a hospital for “his head injury and exposure to pepper spray,” according to a statement from BPD.
