Five suspects were arrested Thursday on suspicion of vehicle theft, according to Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Byron White.

After receiving multiple reports that a group of suspects was attempting to break into a parked car, BPD officers reported to the area of Ninth Street and Allston Way, White said in an email. When officers reached the scene, they found five suspects inside the vehicle.

Authorities detained the suspects and then searched the vehicle, discovering a punched ignition column and a reciprocating saw, according to White. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen from San Rafael, California.

White said in an email that the suspects were all males between the ages of 13 and 16. They were arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.
