A 26-year-old UC Berkeley student was walking on Hearst Avenue about 11:15 p.m. Sunday when a car stopped next to him and a male suspect got out, demanding the man’s money, according to an email from Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White.

According to the email, the suspect threatened to have a gun, though no gun was seen. The suspect drove away empty-handed when the student ran away, and the suspect was last seen driving north on La Loma Avenue. The student was not injured during this encounter.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white male in his 30s with a medium build and a dark beard, driving a dark-colored sedan, the email said.
