Berkeley police respond to assault with deadly weapon at homeless shelter

Dena Jackson was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Monday, according to an email from Berkeley Police Department spokesperson Officer Byron White.

According to White in an email, officers responded to reports of the incident at a homeless shelter at 1601 Second St. at about 8:40 a.m. According to White, two people had been fighting when the suspect left the scene, returning with a metal bar. The suspect then struck the victim on the back with the metal bar.

According to White’s email, officers spoke with several witnesses before arresting Jackson.
