A week after overcoming several key absences in a 28-20 win over Ole Miss, No. 15 Cal football kicked off its showdown against Arizona State without the services of several rotation players.

Receiver Kekoa Crawford, cornerback Traveon Beck and safety Daniel Scott were all ruled out prior to kickoff, with true freshman Makai Polk taking Crawford’s spot at the starting receiver position. Through four games, Crawford has led all Cal receivers with 185 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

With Beck sidelined, senior Josh Drayden is expected to take on duties as the team’s primary nickel back.

After not playing against the Rebels last weekend, outside linebackers Cameron Goode and Tevin Paul warmed up and started when the Bears’ defense took the field.
