Ribbon, a 6-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix, returned to Berkeley Humane on Monday after being stolen that morning by a volunteer.
There were reports Monday morning that Ribbon was missing from the facility. Ribbon, according to Berkeley Humane spokesperson Morgan Pulleyblank, was found Monday afternoon by a “good Samaritan” and was brought back to the facility about 1 p.m.
The volunteer who stole Ribbon is no longer working at Berkeley Humane, Pulleyblank said.
Pulleyblank added that this was an “unprecedented” event. The facility has changed its codes on keypads and is reviewing its rules and policies to prevent another theft from happening in the future.
Ribbon did not seem traumatized upon her return and according to Pulley, “looks great.”
